Don't be fooled by schools that offer all-day kindergarten, but only teach  half day curriculum.

To keep the lines of communication open between parents and school, Lake Ontario teachers use FISH Books (Fantastic Information Stored Here). These books (folders) contain important information such as the work the students did during the day, homework assignments, notes to and from parents, milk and lunch money, and any other useful information to benefit the students success. The Bug Books go to and from school daily.
Students who exhibit good behavior are given smiley face  stamps. Once a month, the students are allowed to go to the room's Smilesville Store. At the store, the students trade their smiley faces for merchandise. The more smiley faces, the greater the value of the items.

Once a month the students are allowed to wear jeans for good behavior as well.

Students in Lake Michigan receive Michigan money for their good behavior. The cash is only good for the once a month auction. The teachers take turns being the auctioneer and auction off various items donated to the classroom. Third grade is when students begin to realize that they are at different levels academically than other students in the room. The students are taught that no one is better or smarter than anyone else, their just at a different level. The students' level varies from subject to subject and students know they must work harder in the subject that are more difficult for them. All of the teachers try to arrange a field trip once a month. Field trips are a vital part of a child's education. Exploring the Arts, or just investigating real life occupations, provides a well rounded education. Students learn the importance of their studies and how they relate to the real world.
