News from the PTT

Our most recent PTT (Parent Teacher Team) meeting took place on Thursday, February 26th.

A new school fundraiser program was evaluated. Barbara from School House Funds joined our meeting to present her products. Many samples were provided, pizza, bread sticks, and cheesecakes. All were delicious. However, the PTT will decide at a later meeting whether we would use School House Funds for a future fund raising project.

The Bedford Trade Fair is Saturday and Sunday, March 7 & 8. NBA has a booth and volunteers are still needed for 2-hour shifts. The sign up sheet is in the lobby. There will be a meeting on Friday, March 6th for volunteers taking place at the school at 12:15. This meeting will help volunteers know what to say while working the booth at the Trade Fair.

We are also preparing for the NBA Open House which will take place on March 12th from 8:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The PTT will provide cookies and punch for visitors. Please let your friends and family know about NBA and invite them to attend our open house.

A scholastic Book Fair will be taking place March 30 through April 3rd. Volunteers would be appreciated to help work in 2 to 4 hour shifts.

It’s almost time again to nominate and elect officers for your PTT. The offices of President and Treasurer will be open for the 2009-2010 school year. Anyone interested in running for one of these offices should contact Keri Porter.

Nominations shall be accepted during the April General PTT meeting. Elections will take place at the meeting. The term of office for all members of the Board shall be for one year from July 1 to June 30.

During the Teacher Presentation portion of the meeting, Miss. Cusumano explained the new assessment tool being used here at NBA - DIBELS Data System. DIBELS stands for Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills and is used for students in grades K-4. This school wide model allows for an individualized reading assessment of each student and those results, in turn, assist the teachers to help each student on an individual basis. This is a year-long monitoring system which helps to pinpoint the status of each student constantly.

Our next PTT meeting is on March 26th at 6:30 p.m. All parents are encouraged to attend and food and childcare are provided. We look forward to seeing you there!
