New Bedford
Academy Ferris State University Charter
Vision: New Bedford Academy is committed to the concept of diversity. In this ever-changing world, students need to learn and experience cultures that are different from their own. They need to read, think, express themselves and be constructive members of society. Through the utilization of educational strategies such as team-teaching, cooperative learning, multiage grouping, and a focus on the application of technology to further enhance individualized learning, the students will be provided with a discovery-rich environment. Students are encouraged to make choices and learn how to evaluate their work and their behavior. Multi-Age: Students are afforded the opportunity to develop at their own rate, tutor others, and interact with students of different ages. They will have opportunities to collaborate on areas of central study, yet still have smaller group time to work on various skill-based areas. Every Friday is a half day of instruction for the students and structured Child-Care is provided for the other half of the day for students needing the services. Friday afternoons are utilized as collaborative planning time for our staff. This will maintain a climate of continued professional growth and team teaching. After-school clubs are formed so children are able to experience real life activities such as, drama, art, and band. Students excel academically through a collaborative partnership between the teachers, students, parents and community.
